Today, food enthusiasts around the world know the story: it all began in 1994 when a Canadian homemaker was baking an orange cake. Tired of using her old grater, she commandeered one of her husband's favorite woodworking tools. She slid the orange across the blade and was amazed by the result: thin strips of zest fell like snowflakes. This discovery of the capabilities of Microplane® woodworking tools, which effortlessly produce the tiniest orange zest imaginable, is the foundation of the success of Microplane® kitchen graters. A complete new product line for both home and professional cooks was born, and it was met with tremendous acclaim. These products have not only earned a permanent place in kitchens and restaurants worldwide, but they have also become essential kitchen graters. Since then, Microplane® graters have distinguished themselves from other types of graters thanks to decades of experience and expertise, using a chemical process to create ultra-sharp cutting surfaces. Unlike stamped graters, Microplane® graters effortlessly cut through hard or soft foods without tearing or shredding them. By inventing this unique manufacturing method, Microplane revolutionized the world of kitchen graters and continues to inspire both professional and amateur cooks.
